Honcho Shimoyashiki (本町下屋敷 Hon-cho Shimoyashiki) is one of the most recognizable locations of the series. It's also one of the most ample (but not most complex) maps in the games and featured in missions from any factions. Based on the picture of the whole map of Utakata, it appears as though Honcho Shimoyashiki is near the centre of the province, possibly connected to Sengen Town to the East, possibbly connected to Utakata Castle and/or Phantom Forest to the North and North West, and may also be connected to Mokuami Fortress to the South West.
The map has four exits: North-East, North-West, South-West and South-East; and two floor levels: Ground level (1F) and Lower level (BF). A square-shaped wall surrounds the estate-like place.
There are three reference points upon exploration:
- An inner garden in the lower level, accessible through the north-west entrance or by going through the main residence (road or stairs).
- The main residence, accesible by either the south entrance or by going through the inner garden (road or stairs).
- The storage area, accesible by either the north-east entrance or by going through the main residence (by road or by the small house that connects both areas).
It has a total of 3 cages (2 in the inner garden, 1 in the main residence) and 3 wells (1 in the inner garden, 1 in the main residence and 1 in the storage area).
Packages from Thievery missions are usually found in the leftmost guest room in the inner garden area or in the lavish room inside the main residence, while Assassination and Kidnapping targets are found in any of the guest rooms in the inner garden, in the main residence, in the house between the main residence and the storage area, or in one of the storage rooms.
In Way of the Ninja, this is one of the locations where Goh can be ambushed by Zaji. In Revenge of Zen, this is the location of some of the story missions.
